Meet the Knerds

In the beginning….

Born leader, vigorous, brilliant, and puzzling…describes me…Sunshine. Since the third grade I had a struggle with the CRCT because I had trouble comprehending what I read. The teachers thought I was just being lazy. My mother place me in afterschool tutoring and I have been a scholar every since. People thought I wasn’t confident enough in myself. I didn’t understand my vision at first of being a leader. But now if you ask about me at the age of 11, they would say she is always smiling, has a very humble spirit, and always full of energy.

I have always been involved in some type of entertainment like dancing, cheering, singing, gymnastics, and other sports. My voice reminds people of Jennifer Hudson but my vocals are stronger than hers were as a child and better than Beyonce. I am the R in New KNERDS which stands for relentlessly because when I put my mind to something I never give up even if I am tired. And also I am the D for driven since I always have the drive to strive for more. Being apart of the New Knerds is awesome because people look up to us….My dream is that more youth will want to become New Knerds because what we stand for.

Kyra “Special K” Hollis

There is something Special about obtaining “Knowledge”…hence forth the name…Special “K”, using Knowledge to create change in a positive way. If I were a super hero, my weapon of choice would be an Ink Pen. Why, well the Ink Pen is an instrument that can make change for everybody. For example, laws that are made to help everybody are signed with an Ink Pen.

Providing a positive impression to those you meet is very important. I believe, “You never get a 2nd chance to make a 1st impression.” This is why I try to provide a warm and inviting smile to everyone. Everybody is somebody and you never know when you will need or cross the path of that person again.

I think I most represent the letter “D” for Driven. Being a driven scholar is important every day. Nothing is easy. My Mom says “Hard work makes Greatness!”, and there will always be obstacles, walls, and hurdles thrown your way; but you have to “Believe in Yourself”, stay dedicated to your dreams and always put your best foot forward. I believe that being a New Knerd isn’t about being unpopular and uncool….It’s about being productive, smart and making learning fun.

Quiet Storm

Hi, my name is Quiet Storm, I view myself as an adventurous, ambitious, independent and intelligent young lady. I know that’s a lot but that’s the “Storm” in me. I asked my family and friends, “What comes to mind when you see me?” Of course they said, “I am I’m lovely, caring, and considerate;” which shows the Quiet side!” My balance comes from my parents and the values they have instilled in me… ”What letter do I represent in the word KnERDS?” I am not going to short myself…I exemplify ALL of them..LOL!!! I am the whole package. I am Knowledgeable-because I know where all my strength comes from. I am Educated-because I put my studies first! I am Relentless because I never give up. I am Driven because I strive not to equal but to excel and I am a Scholar because I got accepted in Advanced Math for 6th as a result of my CRCT scores. I am not a part of the KnERDS… I proudly confess I was born a Knerd. Being a KnERD has taught me that family does not always consist of blood. We play together; eat together, and most important we pray together. I am a New KNERD I am humbled to be a part of the movement!

New Knerds represent the kids who fight inside of “anyone’s box!” Just like several children that sit in today’s classrooms and go unnoticed… I too, am very different from the average kid. I am that kid people view as weird, yet different in his own special way. I’m sort of ,like T.I . and T.I.P.; but instead of having two sides I have three. Music, knowledge and chaos make up the essence of who I am! The chaos represents the highs and lows that I have had to endure in my short life. The music is my escape from the Chaos and the Knowledge is the tool I plan to use to help our future generation.

How do People on the outside treat me? Well first of all I can’t just say me because a large part of “ME” is the New KnERDS. People treat me well and I think being a New Knerd has played a part in that. Before the New Knerds, many kids disrespected me and I was invisible to most teachers…well, until I met Mrs. Wright! My father and my friend once told me to make my “haters my motivators” and that’s what I did. If you think about it all kids who make fun of other kids are really insecure.

In this dynamic group called KnERDS I love using music to motivate and inspire my peers!
If had to be a letter in the Knerds it would have to be R. Why? Well, because I am Relentless in everything I do. When I play basketball, “I’m like Kobe busting three’s!” When I hit the football field, “I’m like LaDanilian Tomlinson.” When I’m on stage with the Knerds…well, you decide!

Lil Jay….What’s up to all my education aliens…or should I say “New KnERDS”!!! This is ya boy Lil Jay. I’m new to the team, but I have alaway been a New Knerd at hear! Joining the New Knerds has been a Dream come True! I have always had a love for learning…I just never told anyone because it wasn’t cool. Yes, I am a little “vertically challenged…ok…I’m the shortest on the team!” …But I have the Courage of David and the Heart of a Lion, so when I’m on stage, prepare to hear me ROARRRRR!!!
